Norse Operates Non-Stop Charter Flight from Oslo to Darwin, Australia
(05/08/24)
Norse Atlantic Airways has completed a landmark
non-stop flight between Norway and
Australia.
Chartered by Albastar S.A. and brokered by
Aircontact, one of Scandinavia’s largest air broker firms,
the milestone flight is the first ever non-stop service between
Norway and Australia.
Taking off from Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL) at
06:30 on Saturday, 3 August, the Boeing 787-9 landed at Darwin International
Airport (DRW) at 06:00 am on Sunday, 4 August, after flying approximately 14,730 kilometres
with a flight time of 16.5 hours.
Team Norse after the historic OSL – DRW flight
“Completing this charter flight between Norway and
Darwin, a first in aviation, is a testament to our commitment to
consistently delivering excellent service to our charter clients,”
said Mette Birkedahl,
Director Charter and ACMI Norse Atlantic Airways. “The Boeing
787-9 Dreamliner is the perfect aircraft for ultra long distance
flying and we are proud to demonstrate its capabilities on this
historic route.”
With a range of up to 15,400 kilometres, the
Boeing 787-9 features advanced aerodynamics and lightweight composite
materials that significantly reduce fuel consumption and lower CO2
emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft.
The reduced noise, larger windows, improved
cabin pressure and higher humidity levels, all help to enhance
passenger comfort.
Norse is no stranger to making headlines. Last
year, the carrier became the first airline to land a Boeing 787
Dreamliner on a ‘blue ice runway’, 3,000 meters long and 60 meters
wide, at Troll Airfield Antarctica (QAT), on behalf of the
Norwegian Polar Institute.
