NCWV Native Wins World Archery Championship at Canaan Valley
Izzy Yoos of Jane Lew reached an amateur career high by winning a IBO World Championship at Canaan Valley last week.
“Being able to be a World Champion is an honor. I am very fortunate for every opportunity that has been my way, and I have so many people to thank who helped me get to where I am,” Yoos said.
This event brings talent from all over the world with one goal in mind; to win the World Championship in their division.
Yoos is 19 years old and has been competing in archery for around 6 years.
Archery at its finest is not a sport where you can pick up the bow and arrow and succeed immediately.
Archery takes hours upon hours of practice to even be on a playing field with most competitors.
Yoos’ family has said it themselves; they have seen her hard work through the years to see her accomplish this goal.
IBO Worlds consists of two days of scoring: 20 targets on Thursday and 20 targets on Friday.
Then the top 5 scores from each division will shoot an additional 10 targets on their third day to see who will be crowned Champion in their division.
Yoos sat in fourth place on her first day and climbed her way to the top by the last targets on Saturday, August 8.
Yoos celebrated her win immediately with her fellow competitors along with her parents, Chad Eddy and Sarah Straley-Yoos, as well as her younger brother Parker Eddy.
Yoos strives not only to perform to the best of her capability, but to be as good as a competitor on the range as possible.
She loves to be there to support anyone on the range and help in any way she can, stranger or friend.
She wants to spread the sport of competitive archery as much as she can; it truly gets you out there and is a way to meet so many new people.
Izzy not only brought home a World Championship title but also an Overall award in IBO for their Field round in their Triple Crown series.
There are three rounds throughout the year, the first held at Pipestem, WV, the second in Franklin, PA, then the third in Nelsonville, OH.
In the midst of it all, Yoos opened up her own shop in Jane Lew named Little Arrow Archery Shop.
The shop’s goal is to give anyone and everyone the same opportunities she had getting started in the archery industry.
The shop is a family business where you will find Yoos, her dad and her brother helping customers in any way they can.
