Since 1985, the event has brought thousands of athletes to Jupiter, growing from a local race into an annual tradition that attracts competitors from across Florida and the country.
Organizers said some athletes who competed in the race decades ago continued to return, with participants also introducing younger family members and friends to the sport.
To commemorate the milestone, every participant in Saturday’s event received a special 40th anniversary finisher medal.
The race began at 7 a.m. at Carlin Park and included a 3/8-mile ocean swim, 13-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run.
Athletes competed individually or as part of a relay team. The event also included duathlon and aquabike divisions.
Organizers encouraged newcomers to participate through a First Timer Division and First Timer Seminar aimed at helping athletes prepare for race day. Discounted registration was also available for participants ages 14 to 19.
The Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce produces the triathlon, which is presented by Tampa General Hospital. Organizers said the annual event also brings spectators to the area and generates business for the local community.
