Lengkok Bahru murder: Man accused of killing neighbour taken back to crime scene

SINGAPORE – The 59-year-old accused of murdering his neighbour at Block 55 Lengkok Bahru on July 20 was brought back to the crime scene by police on Aug 25.

On July 22, Ng Swee Seng was charged with the murder of Thiyagarajan Karunakaran, also 59.

Police were alerted to the incident at around 5pm on July 20 and found Thiyagarajan lying motionless at a lift lobby on the 16th floor. He was taken to the National University Hospital and died later.

On Aug 25, a handcuffed Ng, wearing a red polo T-shirt and shorts, arrived in a black van at 9.20am. He had restraints around his feet and was flanked by several officers.

Ng stared intently at the media before he was taken into the lift to the 16th floor.

Ng trudged down the corridor to a unit and spoke to officers.

Investigators placed two placards on the ground and the scene visit concluded when Ng returned to the van at about 10.15am.

Ng, who had earlier appeared in a district court via video link, said on July 22: “If I hear sounds, I will scold people… I reacted because I heard (a) voice.”

When ST visited the block at about 11.45am on July 21, drops of blood and a bloody footprint were visible along the corridor.

A resident said he learnt of the incident after reviewing security camera footage outside his home, which captured the two men arguing for about three minutes. One was heard threatening to hurt the other.

Ng faces the death penalty if convicted of murder.
