DBS, POSB digital payment services restored after short disruption

SINGAPORE – Some DBS and POSB customers reported facing issues with digital payment services late on Aug 21, before the situation was resolved before midnight.

In a Facebook post at about 11.20pm on Aug 21, DBS said those using FAST, PayNow and SGQR payments on the DBS/POSB digibank and DBS PayLah digital platforms may be affected.

The bank later posted an update just before midnight saying that services have returned to normal as at 11.34pm.

It had earlier advised customers to make payments with DBS/POSB cards and withdraw cash at DBS/POSB ATMs and POSB Cash-Points.

DBS also assured customers that their “monies and deposits remain safe” and apologised for the inconvenience.

Downdetector – a website that tracks service disruptions – first showed a spike in reports on DBS at about 10.15pm. There were 18 reports as at 11.30pm.

On July 23, DBS PayLah experienced an hours-long disruption, while earlier on March 19, some DBS Bank and POSB customers could not use the banks’ digital banking services for about an hour.

The bank previously faced a disruption of more than 12 hours on Oct 14, 2023, which affected its online and mobile services and physical card transactions.

This led the Monetary Authority of Singapore to impose a six-month restriction on DBS’ non-essential banking activities.
