WV Kicks is Open on West Main Street

Whether you are in the market for the most popular high-end sports shoes or a pair of reasonably priced ones, WV Kicks has them from Travis Scott Black Phantoms at $1200 to casual shoes priced under $30.

Now open at 142 West Main Street in Bridgeport, the retailer is fully stocked with brands including Jordan, Nike, Dunks, Kobe, New Balance, On Cloud, Travis Scott and more.

Not only does the owner Rob Weckesser sell shoes at his privately owned store, but he also buys them.

“We sell new and used shoes here. I buy shoes from people who walk in every single day,” he said.

Additionally, WV Kicks carries several lines of casual clothing including T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and sweatpants.

Among brands are Essentials, Spider, Travis Scott, Antisocial, Supreme, Palace Collabs, VLONE, the WV Kicks brand and local Nick Edwards line Seamz flannels and thermals.

Other merchandise includes Pokemon card slabs and sports cards slabs.

Weckesser prides himself on keeping prices affordable, selling at market value or below and typically less than big box stores.

“Kids realize that and parents realize that and (by shopping here), you are supporting a local person and spending less than at other stores,” he said.

Although shoes and clothing are the main attraction and those items are displayed in more than three-quarters of his space, Weckesser also has a small smoke shop named Wake n’ Vape.

“I opened in Nutter Fort in 2023 with just the vape shop,” he said. “Then a suite became available next door and I started the shoe store. Now it’s the complete opposite and I’m more into the clothes and shoes. That is what is most popular here and what everyone loves.”

Weckesser said the Bridgeport location – most recently occupied by HempWorks – serves him better because of the street and foot traffic. With other retailers located nearby and great eateries like Almost Heaven Desserts and Winnie’s Café, it is just a nice area for his business.

“It’s also a lot bigger than the Nutter Fort store. It’s triple the space I had before,” he said. “I liked the industrial style. We changed up the style and colors with the WV Kicks logo and custom basketball backboard.”

Sometimes, he will challenge a young shopper to make a shot for a free shirt.

WV Kicks is active in the community, often giving away shoes at local schools, participating in back-to-school giveaways and sponsoring local sports teams.

WV Kicks is open 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday.
