Gone are the days when we used to see Virat Kohli get on the nerves of his opponents. The star Indian batter was seen appreciating Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed after bowling a fine spell during India’s marquee clash against Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai on Sunday.

Following the new-ball spell by Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah, Pakistan’s bowlers looked far from their best in terms of performances. But the leg-spinner, Abrar was their shining light in what was a disappointing performance on all fronts.
The leg-spinner bowled a peach of a delivery to remove Shubman Gill. A carrom ball left the star Indian opening batter stunned as it turned away from the right-hander to clip the off-stump, resulting in Gill missing out on his fifty.
As Abrar continued, later on, at the end of the 37th over, Kohli was seen appreciating the bowler’s efforts despite India cruising their way to a win by six wickets. The Indian batting icon stuck till the end, scoring his 51st ODI century as the chase master showed why he is one of the greats of the game.
In the chase, Kohli led the charge by hitting seven boundaries in a sublime knock and sharing a solid 114-run stand with Shreyas Iyer, who made a 67-ball 56, as India reached home with 45 balls to spare in front of a sell-out crowd.
For Pakistan, the situation is not ideal as they are on the brink of an embarrassing group-stage exit as the hosts of the ongoing tournament. They will now look at the New Zealand vs Bangladesh match and hope that Bangladesh can cause an upset and the Indian team can assist them with a win over the Kiwis. The onus would then be on the hosts to beat Bangladesh by a massive margin to ensure that their net run-rate comes out on top to secure the second spot and qualify for the semi-final.
Rohit Sharma and Co will now enjoy rest for a week as they prepare themselves for their final group-stage game against Mitchell Santner’s New Zealand where India looks to make it a hat-trick of wins ahead of the knockout stages.
