VHP met 350 MPs to discuss issues such as Waqf Bill, liberation of temples
The Vishva Hindu Parishad on Thursday (December 19, 2024) said that it contacted more than 350 MPs across all political parties, under its annual Saansad Sampark Abhiyan (MPs outreach programme), during the Winter Session of Parliament and discussed issues like liberation of temples and the Waqf Amendment Bill, among others.
VHP secretary general Bajrang Lal Bagra said every year during the Winter Session of Parliament, the VHP contacts MPs to discuss important issues. VHP members of different States attempt to contact MPs of their respective States during the programme.
“This year’s programme was organised from December 2 to 20 during the current Winter Session of the Parliament. In its first phase from December 2 to 6, volunteers from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal and Maharashtra contacted a total of 114 Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs,” Mr. Bagra said.
In the second phase from December 9 to 13, VHP volunteers from Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Jammu Kashmir contacted a total of 139 MPs of these States.
The third and final phase of the campaign begun from December 16 and in this phase, MPs from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Manipur and Nagaland were contacted.
The VHP members in their meeting with MPs stressed that all Hindu temples under the control of governments should be handed over to the Hindu society, he said. The VHP also urged the MPs to support the Waqf Amendment Bill and similar to Articles 29 and 30 of the Constitution, which allow the minority communities to run their religious educational institutions, the Hindu society too should not be are deprived of this right.
