UP Jal Shakti Minister hails Jal Jeevan Mission extension, calls it a ‘lifeline’ for rural growth | India News
LUCHNOW: Uttar Pradesh’s Jal Shakti Minister, Swatantra Dev Singh, has welcomed the Central government’s decision to extend the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) until 2028, calling it a crucial step for rural development.
The extension, announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2025, aims to further the mission of providing potable tap water to all rural households.Singh praised the initiative, stating, “The JJM has become a lifeline for the development of Uttar Pradesh and the country.”
He highlighted that the double-engine government’s commitment to “Har Ghar Jal” has transformed rural infrastructure, accelerating village development across the state.
As per the Uttar Pradesh government, 2.34 crore rural families have benefitted from tap water connectivity under JJM. Moreover, the state has achieved 100% tap water supply in Bundelkhand and Vindhya regions, which struggled with severe water scarcity before 2017.
