The home of the Phoenix Suns has a new name
Signage for the Footprint Center was seen being taken down Tuesday morning.
PHOENIX — The Suns’ arena has a new name, at least temporarily.
The facility formerly known as the Footprint Center will be known as PHX Arena until the team reaches a new deal for a naming partnership.
Workers were seen removing the lettering identifying the building as the Footprint Center Tuesday morning.
When asked about the name change Stacey Mitch, Senior Vice President, Communications of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury said:
“We were presented with a unique opportunity to reimagine and strengthen our partnership with Footprint to better align with their mission and commitment to sustainability and innovation. Footprint will remain the official sustainability partner of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury, and we have begun the process to find a new naming rights partner.”
Formerly known as the “America West Arena,” the venue went through several name changes before the Gilbert-based company Footprint secured the rights to the name in 2021.
Although the City of Phoenix owns the building, it doesn’t deal with the naming rights to the venue or have a hand in its operations. City officials were unable to provide further comment on the signs’ removal.
