Strong storms could impact your Easter weekend | What you should know

Storms are expected across the state over Easter weekend, which could impact outdoor activities. Here’s what you should know.

ARKANSAS, USA — Strong storms could impact your Easter weekend activities.

Our THV11 meteorology team wants to make sure you’re prepared for potential storms this weekend. Here’s what you need to know.

What should I expect?

A slow-moving cold front will move into Arkansas this weekend with a chance of a few strong thunderstorms and a risk of severe weather.

A slight risk of severe weather is possible both Saturday and Sunday. This includes a moderate risk of flash flooding for Northwest Arkansas. We could see rainfall of 2 to 3” possible if multiple storms move over the same area.

Damaging wind, hail, and even a couple of tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

Easter activities, including sunrise services and egg hunts, may be impacted by the incoming weather.

When should I expect severe weather?

The front is expected to enter northwest Arkansas on Friday night and stall until late Saturday and early Sunday.

By Sunday afternoon, the front will begin to make forward progression eastward, with storms becoming possible across the rest of the state.

Strong to potentially severe storms cannot be ruled out with strong winds and hail, and considering the time of year, a tornado or two is possible.

Currently, there is a low-end risk of severe weather from Friday through Sunday.

For Friday, it’s the northwestern part of the state. On Saturday, more of Arkansas has a threat, and Sunday, all of Arkansas will have a chance of a strong storm as a cold front and upper-level storm system move across the region.

There will be changes in this forecast leading up to the weekend.

What do I need to stay safe?

If outdoors, make sure you have a way to receive severe weather information this weekend. Also, it’s a great time to go over your severe weather safety plan with your family, just in case a warning is issued.
