Two policemen attached to the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) checkpost at Kottakuppam on the East Coast Road were suspended for allegedly accepting ₹2,000 as bribe from two persons for not booking a case against them for smuggling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from Puducherry.

The policemen, Special Sub-Inspector Gandhimohan and constable Kalaiarasan who were deployed at the PEW checkpost on Saturday had intercepted a car bound to Hosur in Krishnagiri district from Puducherry. The occupants in the car had liquor bottles brought from Puducherry.

The policemen allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹2,000 from the occupants and let them off without registering a case. Based on an inquiry, Superintendent of Police P. Saravanan ordered the suspension of the two policemen.
