Snow & ice may impact Arkansas next week | Weather Impact Alert
Here’s what you need to know about the dangerous cold impacting parts of Arkansas this week.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Now that the wintry precipitation has moved on, dangerous cold will stick around through the rest of the week.
Due to the extremely cold weather, a Weather Impact Alert will be in effect through Friday.
Locations in central Arkansas could see a consecutive 90 to 100 hours or more below the freezing mark. Therefore, freezing pipes will also be a threat.
Dangerous wind chills below zero are possible along with nighttime lows on Friday morning crashing into the single digits to low teens. There is an Extreme Cold Warning in effect until noon Thursday.
Bitter cold to impact Arkansas through Friday
Although frozen precipitation isn’t actively falling, subfreezing temperatures will keep poor road conditions in place through the rest of the week.
The sunshine will help some melting occur, but no significant melting will be able to happen until temperatures get above freezing this weekend. Anything that does melt will refreeze overnight, so black ice will be a concern for the next several days.
