Showers and scattered thunderstorms in the Valley



The storms will be capable of heavy rain, strong gusty winds, and lightning.

PHOENIX — Showers and scattered thunderstorms will develop across the Valley Sunday and continue through the night, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

NWS says storms have been developing east of Phoenix and to the west in Riverside and La Paz Counties. Storms are also popping up just to the south of Phoenix. 

The storms will be capable of heavy rain, strong gusty winds, and lightning

NWS says gusty winds and heavy downpours will be possible with any thunderstorm. 

Total rain amounts are projected to reach a quarter to one-half inch, with localized higher amounts, according to NWS.

Into the evening on Sunday, some areas of the Valley could also see hail, the NWS said.

Windy conditions are also cropping up across the Valley. The NWS Phoenix issued Special Weather Statements for Cave Creek, Tolleson, and Cashion, as well as Quartzsite, Parker, and Cienega Springs. 

Sunday’s high temperatures are also five to 10 degrees below daily normal, the NWS said. And this may continue into Monday, with high temperatures being as much as 15 degrees below normal.
