Sheriff Matheny Warning Residents of Ongoing Scam Seeking Confidential Personal, Financial Information

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about an ongoing phone scam involving individuals impersonating law enforcement officers. These callers may falsely claim that you have missed a court date, have a warrant for your arrest, or must pay a fine immediately — often threatening arrest if you do not comply.

 

Please be advised:

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call you to demand payment, request confidential personal or financial information.

 

If you receive a suspicious or threatening call:

 

• Do NOT provide any personal or financial information.

• Do NOT engage with the caller.

• Hang up immediately.

• Call 911 to report the incident.

 

“These scams are designed to scare you into acting quickly without thinking,” said Sheriff Matheny. “Our deputies do not handle matters like this by phone, and we want every citizen to be safe from fraud and intimidation.”
