Sen. Mazie Hirono (D) has won her reelection bid in the state of Hawaii, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ.
Hirono easily defeated her Republican competitor, Bob McDermott. She was first elected to represent the state in 2013, becoming the first Asian American woman elected to the Senate.
This cycle, she received endorsements from the National Education Association, Everytown for Gun Safety and the state’s AFL-CIO labor union.
Prior to her tenure in Congress’s upper chamber, Hirono served as a representative in the U.S. House, as the 10th lieutenant governor of Hawaii and as a representative in the state’s Legislature, where she passed more than 120 bills into law.
