Rick Scott leading Mucarsel-Powell by 3 points in Florida reelection bid: Poll

Incumbent Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) is leading former Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-Fla.) by about 3 points in his race to keep his seat, a recent new St. Pete Polls survey found.

In the survey for FloridaPolitics.com, Mucarsel-Powell garnered 45.6 percent support from Sunshine State likely general election voters to Scott’s 48.8 percent. Around 6 percent of the surveyed voters said they were “undecided” or wouldn’t “say” who they were backing.

Mucarsel-Powell’s attempt to take Scott’s place in the Senate is a tough fight in a state that has been consistently voting in favor of Republicans in recent years. According to an average of polls from The Hill/Decision Desk, Scott is ahead of Mucarsel-Powell by 4.8 points.

In the same St. Pete Polls survey, former President Trump came out ahead of Vice President Harris by 5.7 points, with the former president earning 50.3 percent support from Florida likely general election voters to Harris’s 44.6 percent.

Trump is 6.6 points ahead of Harris in the Sunshine State, where he currently lives, according to an average of polls from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ. However, a comedian at the former president’s Sunday rally in New York may have disappointed some in Florida’s important Puerto Rican voter bloc by saying he believes Puerto Rico is “literally a floating island of garbage.”

Scott later denounced the comments, and Trump’s campaign distanced themselves from them.

“This joke bombed for a reason. It’s not funny and it’s not true. Puerto Ricans are amazing people and amazing Americans! I’ve been to the island many times. It’s a beautiful place. Everyone should visit! I will always do whatever I can to help any Puerto Rican in Florida or on the island,” Scott said in a post on the social platform X.

The survey took place between Oct. 23 and 25, featuring 1,227 likely Florida general election voters and a margin of error of 2.8 percent.
