The government held an all-party meeting in the national capital on Thursday to brief the Opposition about Operation Sindoor, carried out by the Indian armed forces to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack.
This comes a day after the military strikes decimated several terror camps in Pakistan’s Punjab and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge raised questions over the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the meeting that was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, sources said.
The Prime Minister had also skipped the previous all-party meeting to brief on the situation after the Pahalgam terror attack. The Opposition had then demanded the presence of PM Modi.
PM Modi today chaired a key security meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan at around the same time as the all-party meeting.
Opposition Extends Support To Govt
Speaking to the reporters after the meeting, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the Opposition stands with the government in this hour of crisis.
“In this hour of crisis, we are with the government, and we don’t want to create any controversy,” he said.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi complimented the government and the armed forces for Operation Sindoor and suggested that the government should seek the US to designate The Resistance Front as a terrorist organisation.
“I have complimented our armed forces and the government for Operation Sindoor. I also suggested that we should run a global campaign against the Resistance Front (TRF). I also suggested that the government should request the USA to designate it (TRF) as a terrorist organisation. We should also make efforts to grey-list Pakistan in FATF,” he said.
