Pro-Tim Walz spot parodying infamous Coors Light ‘Twins’ commercial panned

An ad celebrating Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz – and parodying a popular early 2000s beer commercial – was widely mocked on social media Friday, with many wondering if it was actually a sincere attempt at supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate.

It was.

The “Here’s To Tim” spot, made for “Creatives for Harris,” is a riff on a 2002 Coors Light ad campaign overtly aimed at men.

“I love sinking into the couch. Cold beer in my mouth. Rooting for the Twins. And Tim,” are the opening lyrics for the pro-Walz spot, which starts by showing a shadowy figure resembling the Minnesota governor holding a football and later shows Walz working on his truck.

The Walz spot follows a viral commercial about “real men” who support Kamala Harris. Youtube

The ad’s “And Tim” coda is a twist on the infamous Coors Light commercial’s “And Twins” lyric.

“And I love sharing all my tools. Playing by the rules. Keeping those edges trim. And Tim,” goes the second verse, which features imagery of men working with tools, putting shopping carts in corrals, doing yard work and shaving.

There is also a clip of the Minnesota governor riding a rollercoaster, whereas the original beer ads  included shots of rough football, raucous parties and a set of sexually suggestive identical twins.

The song ends shortly after the male singer professes his love for “leaving my wife notes. Making a plan to vote. Helping Kamala win. And Tim.”

“We love you, Tim! Go get ’em, Coach!” the voiceover says to conclude the spot.

The ad is apparently the brainchild of Jacob Reed, an “award-winning director and writer” whose work has appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Comedy Central, Funny or Die and Nickelodeon, according to his website.

Reed first posted the ad on his YouTube account last month – with a link to the Harris campaign website – in the days before Walz’ debate against Republican Ohio. Sen. JD Vance.

Reed is credited as the commercial’s executive producer and creative director.

Reed, who is a Harris donor, is also responsible for the “cringey” pro-Kamala ad targeting “real men” that went viral on Friday.

The video is a parody of a Coors Light beer commercial which aired in the early 2000s. Youtube

Both ads note at the end that they were “not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.”

“If you thought that ad of the men for Kamala was cringe, wait until you see the same group’s Tim Walz video,” Daily Wire managing editor Brent Scher wrote on X

“Yikes,” Fox Business’ Charles Gasparino tweeted after watching the pro-Walz spot.

“The best they’ve got right now is cringe riffs on classic twenty-year old beer adverts,” another X user argued

One user was so miffed by the ad that they asked X’s community notes for confirmation that it “was actually put out” by Harris-Walz supporters.

“I sincerely can’t believe this is real,” the user added.

“Clearly a troll account,” another X user chimed in.

“This group is deliberately trying to tank the Harris-Walz campaign,” one X user argued. “There is no other explanation.”
