Police identify victims of Carry the Kettle quadruple homicide

Saskatchewan RCMP have released the identities of the four people killed on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation last week.

Officers responded to a report of deaths on the reserve, located about 80 kilometres east of Regina, at 11:15 a.m. CT on Feb. 4. They found four people dead in a home.

They were Tracey Hotomani, 34, and Terry Jack, 51, from Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation, Shauna Fay, 47, from Indian Head and Sheldon Quewezance, 44, from Zagime Anishinabek.

RCMP said in a news release that they were releasing the victims’ identities “to help further the investigation.” Police said the four victims were “injured by firearm.”

RCMP said the families of the victims provided the photographs and allowed them to be shared.

“We share our condolences with the families and community members impacted by this tragedy,” police said in the news release.

Hours after the quadruple homicide on Feb. 4, RCMP said they received reports of a man pointing a gun at people at Carry the Kettle’s neighbouring community, Zagime Anishinabek. Later that night, 29-year-old Keagan Panipekeesick was arrested by the Regina Police Service.

In their Tuesday update, RCMP said no arrests have been made in relation to the deaths of the four victims and the investigation into the gun incident on Zagime Anishinabek continues.

“We are actively investigating this tragedy to piece together the details of what happened; this takes time,” said Insp. Ashley St. Germaine, a senior investigative officer with the major crimes unit, in the RCMP release.

“We must be mindful that releasing more specific details could impact the overall investigation.”

RCMP said the investigation continues, including with canvassing neighbourhoods on Carry the Kettle and speaking with people who might have relevant information.
