Phoenix honors fallen officer Zane Coolidge
Officer Zane Coolidge was shot and killed while responding to a car break-in last September.
PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department added its 46th name to a memorial for fallen officers outside City Hall.
Fallen Officer Zane Coolidge’s name is now forever etched in stone alongside others killed in the line of duty.
“He was the kind of officer you wanted by your side. Steadfast, courageous, and deeply committed to the community that he served,” Acting Phoenix Police Chief Dennis Orender said.
Coolidge was shot and killed while responding to a car break-in in September 2024. He leaves behind a loving family, including his wife and daughter, who spoke his name during the ceremonial roll call.
“Officer Zane Tristan Coolidge. Serial Number 10914. End of Watch September 6, 2024,” Kristin Coolidge said.
The Department also honored the other members who paid the ultimate sacrifice on Tuesday.
“My father was a motor officer and had been killed by a gentleman that had been drinking that night,” Reserve Commander Charmane Osborn said.
Osborn, a recently retired assistant Phoenix police chief, followed in her father’s footsteps, remembering his sacrifice every step of the way.
“He loved his job and he loved serving this city and the citizens of Phoenix,” Osborn said. “I think there’s a little bit of peace, even though he lost his life, but I knew he died doing a job he absolutely loved.”
Orender said this annual ceremony is the department’s way of standing by the families who lost their loved ones.
“To the officers that we’ve lost, including Officer Zane Coolidge, you are missed, you are loved, and you will never be forgotten,” Orender said.
He said the Phoenix Police Department will continue to say all 46 names with the intention of keeping their memory alive forever.
“It is our way of keeping our promise to never forget,” Orender said.
People will be traveling to Washington, D.C., for National Police Week in May to represent Coolidge for his ultimate sacrifice.
