Paramedic’s moving account of Trump’s calls family after assassination attempt
A Pennsylvania paramedic who cared for former President Donald Trump after his assassination attempt says she witnessed his “deeply rooted bond with his family” after he narrowly survived.
Butler Memorial Hospital paramedic Sally Sheri said she saw a different side to Trump on July 13 after the former president was shot at during a campaign rally at the Butler Farm Show grounds.
“That evening I witnessed a man with a deeply rooted bond with his family. I heard him speak with his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. He let them know that he was safe and that he was being taken care of,” Sheri said Saturday on the same stage where Trump was shot 12 weeks earlier.
“I heard his daughter say ‘Only by the grace of God you’re here,’” Sheri said as the audience applauded.
Sheri went on to say that the media caricature of Trump was nothing like the man who she took care of that day.
“What I saw was a man, that in the aftermath of one of the most terrifying experiences of his life, showed resiliency. He showed strength and courage. He showed that his family was at the forefront,” she said.
Sheri continued, “He was compassionate and grateful. He was kind and humble. Several times I stood and stared at him with tears rolling down my cheeks.”
“I held the hand of that man who sends out the mean tweets and I thanked him for loving our country and for fighting for our freedoms.”
Sheri said the former president then assured her he was doing everything he could for the country.
The longtime paramedic noted that while healthcare is her calling, on that day she witnessed Trump answering his own calling.
“When I look back to the date of July 13, I see our first responders and our soon-to-be 47th president doing just that: Answering their calling,” she said.
Trump received a hero’s welcome Saturday from a crowd of tens a thousands of people when he returned to the stage where came within a quarter inch of death 12 weeks ago.
Surrounded by MAGA faithful,Trump hoped to galvanize his supporters in the crucial battleground state — all while transforming the terrifying events of July 13 into a message of resiliency.
Trump paid tribute to firefighter Corey Comperatore, 50, who was willed by would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks while attempting to shield his wife and daughters from the gunfire, and David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, who were wounded.
Guests at the rally included the Comperatore family, GOP vice presidential nominee and Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Eric Trump and his wife and Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump and tech mogul Elon Musk.
