‘Modi, Kejriwal like brothers, two sides of same coin’: Owaisi | India News
NEW DELHI: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday guided his strike at AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming there was little difference between the two leaders. “Modi and Kejriwal are like brothers, two sides of the same coin. Both have emerged from the RSS ideology – one from its ‘shakha’ and the other from its institutions,” Owaisi said while campaigning for Shifa-ur-Rehman, AIMIM’s candidate from the Okhla constituency.
Owaisi conducted a walk in Shaheen Bagh, urging residents to support the AIMIM by voting for the “kite,” the party’s election symbol, in the February 5 Delhi polls.
The party has fielded two candidates, Tahir Hussain from Mustafabad and Shifa-ur-Rehman from Okhla. Both candidates are currently in jail with 2020 Delhi riots cases.
Tahir Hussain, formerly a councillor with the Aam Aadmi Party, joined AIMIM last December after being jailed.
During his speech, AIMIM chief questioned the judicial process, alleging bias in favor of AAP leaders. “How did Arvind Kejriwal get bail in the liquor policy case, while Tahir Hussain and Shifa-ur-Rehman remain imprisoned for the past five years? All his leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, have secured bail, but these two are still behind bars. What is their fault?” he asked.
Owaisi also targeted Kejriwal for neglecting the Okhla constituency. “There is development in every other constituency, but why not in Okhla? Instead, Okhla has turned into a mountain of garbage under the AAP government,” he said.
Comparing his reception to that of Kejriwal, Owaisi added, “People shower me with flowers when I walk these roads, but if Kejriwal passes through, they will throw slippers at him.”
He further asserted that the BJP would not win in Okhla. “The BJP has never won here, and it won’t win this time either,” he said.
The results of the Delhi polls will be announced on February 8.
