Mesa police investigating fire at Tesla dealership
The fire happened overnight and parts of Hampton Road are restricted as police investigate.
MESA, Ariz. — A fire at a Tesla dealership in Mesa overnight may have been caused by arson.
City police said that they’re investigating the fire as a possible arson, but are currently unable to provide more details.
Fire crews were called to the dealership around 2 a.m. after multiple people called to report smoke and flames. There, they found that a vehicle up against the building was on fire, fire officials said.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze before it spread to other vehicles or the interior of the building.
Investigators from Mesa Fire and Medical Department, Gilbert Fire and Rescue, the ATF and the County Attorney’s Office are working to learn more.
If confirmed to be arson, this fire would be the latest in a series of vandalism incidents across the country. Attacks on Elon Musk’s electric car company have been increasing across the country in response to the billionaire’s work with the Trump administration.
Tesla also reported a massive 71% drop in profits and 9% drop in revenue during the first quarter.
The dealership is located just southwest of Southern Avenue and Sossaman Roads. Parts of Hampton Road are restricted while police investigate.
