Man attempts to kidnap woman, child in Peoria before getting shot by police
Peoria police were called to a shooting near 83rd and Sweetwater avenues on Thursday evening. Here’s what we know so far.
PEORIA, Ariz. — A man was allegedly trying to kidnap a woman and her baby in Peoria. A shooting that involved an officer occurred shortly after.
Peoria police were called to a shooting near 83rd and Sweetwater avenues Thursday evening.

Police later told 12News that a man approached a woman walking with her baby in a stroller in the greenbelt area near a park and tried to kidnap them. The man, who was unknown to the woman, reached for the child, and the woman FaceTimed her husband for help.
The husband chased the man into a nearby cul-de-sac, police said. Police then became involved, an altercation ensued, and the suspect was shot, police said. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
The officer involved in the shooting is not injured, and Peoria police said there is no active threat to the community.
