Man Arrested after Allegedly Driving Drunk Leading to Vehicle Crash that Ejected 6-Year-Old through Roof

According to WDTV, a man was arrested after a 6-year-old child was ejected from the vehicle he crashed while driving drunk, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.

Ryan Smarr, 33, has been charged with one count of felony child neglect after the crash, which occurred on April 23 along Route 19.

Deputies said the 6-year-old child was not buckled up and was ejected through the roof of the Jeep during the rollover.

When crews arrived on scene, they found Smarr intoxicated with his arm pinned under the vehicle.

Both the child and Smarr were taken to United Hospital Center before being transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Deputies said while on scene, they found numerous alcoholic beverage bottles inside and outside the vehicle in the wreckage and smelled alcohol from within the vehicle.

Court documents say that it appeared the vehicle had swerved off the right side of the road, struck a utility pole and then rolled down the roadway striking three parked vehicles in the process.

Smarr also told authorities on scene that he was drunk, deputies said.

Smarr was arrested on May 1 and released on a PR bond.
