LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The staff at the Little Rock Zoo is going bananas over the birth of a new little one!
On Friday, staff with the zoo announced that a 12-year-old gorilla named Adelina had given birth to a brand new baby gorilla during the early morning hours of March 1.
While they have been unable to determine the baby’s gender just yet they say that the baby appears to be healthy and has been nursing well.
The newborn gorilla is Adelina’s first-born and staff say that the birth was extra special because Adelina is the first gorilla to have been born at the Little Rock Zoo and give birth there too.
The baby gorilla’s father is a 33-year-old gorilla named Kivu who has been taking his role as a dad very seriously.
The pair (Adelina and Kivu) had previously been recommended for breeding by the Gorilla Species Survival Plan and staff with the zoo say that they have been pleased with the results they have seen.
