MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Ark. — An investigation is underway after a 9-hour standoff occurred between a barricaded suspect and officers from the Leachville Police Department (LPD) and Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) on Tuesday evening.
According to reports, officials responded to a shots fired call at a residence on Elm Street. Once they arrived, they spoke with someone who stated she had heard gunshots coming from one of the bedrooms in the home.
As more deputies arrived on the scene, the suspect, identified as 55-year-old Jonathan Mark Robins, opened fire from a bedroom window.
The officers retreated and called for backup, including the Arkansas State Police (ASP) SWAT, Bomb Squad, and negotiators.
Robins later allegedly exited the home, armed with a knife and a handgun, and ran to the open carport of an adjoining residence.
He fired his weapon again, and ASP SWAT members returned fire, striking him. No law enforcement personnel were injured.
Robins received immediate medical treatment but was pronounced dead later that evening.
ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division will prepare an investigative file for the Mississippi County Prosecuting Attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law.
