High School, Middle School, Youth Sports Coach who was Community Leader, Charles Duckworth, Passes



Charles Ebert “Chuck” Duckworth, 68, of Grafton, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, May 8, 2025. He was born December 8, 1956 at Grafton City Hospital, son of the late Robert “Bob” and Vera Litzinger Duckworth. Chuck will be dearly missed by his wife of nearly 37 years, Rhonda Williams Duckworth, whom he married August 27, 1988, and son Ian Reed Duckworth.


 

He graduated from Grafton High School, Class of 1974. He graduated from Fairmont State College with a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering in 1978. He spent his younger years working at Farmer’s Delight. He worked for CNG as Risk Management Administrator and then as Regional Facility Manager. He transitioned to Dominion Resources as Facilities Manager. He was then employed by Arch Resources as the Gas Well and Property Manager. He was recently promoted to Senior Manager, Land Management, of Core Natural Resources.


 


Chuck was a pillar of his community. He was a crucial member of the Friends of McKinney Field Committee that obtained turf field at Grafton High School. He volunteered as an assistant soccer coach for the Grafton Bearcats and head coach of the Taylor County Lady Knights soccer team along with coaching multiple youth soccer teams over the years. He served as a board member on Taylor County Community Funds and as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Grafton-Taylor County Health Department until his untimely passing. He was also the Superintendent of the Knottsville United Methodist Church.


 


Along with his loving wife, Chuck is survived by his pride and joy, son Ian Reed, along with brother Robert “Bob” Duckworth and wife Vicki, Grafton, sister Mary “Mimi” Jones, Ladson, SC, sister-in-law Sheila Keys and husband Jeff, Chester, VA, mother-in-law Jean Williams, Grafton, nieces Lauren, Adrienne (Stephen), and Alison (Tyler), nephews, Jeremy (Shaela), Tyler (Mary Ruth), Matthew (Gillian), and Mark (Amanda), and 7 great nieces and nephews Avery, Emari, Maverick, Parker, Sophie, Beckett, and Laurel. Also survived by his numerous lifelong friends and co-workers.


 


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law Leonard Williams and brother-in-law Mark Jones.


 


Fond memories of Chuck will be carried by all those who knew him.


 


Friends will be received at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Avenue on Monday, May 12 from 3-7 PM and Tuesday, May 13 from 9:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Amy Morrow officiating.
