Gina Swoboda announces campaign for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District

Swoboda, the chair for the Republican Party of Arizona, also announced that she is endorsed by President Donald Trump.
PHOENIX — The chair of the Republican Party of Arizona has officially thrown her hat into the ring for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District.
Gina Swoboda announced her campaign on Oct. 20 with the “support and endorsement of President Trump,” according to a news release.
“Over the last month, I have been overwhelmed and humbled by the outpouring of encouragement I have received from supporters across this district to run for this seat and keep it in Republican hands,” Swoboda said in a news release posted on “X.”
David Schweikert, the current U.S. representative for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District, dropped his reelection bid to run for governor in September. He joins a battleground race that includes nine House Republicans running for governor, two of whom are backed by President Donald Trump.
Arizona’s 1st Congressional District encompasses the areas of Fountain Hills, Paradise Valley, Scottsdale and north Phoenix. The district has become more competitive during the last couple election cycles and Democrats are hoping to snatch Schweikert’s seat in 2026.
