GFWC Woman’s Club of Bridgeport Celebrate Women’s History Month

The GFWC Woman’s Club of Bridgeport celebrated Women’s History Month at their March meeting.  The meeting focused on the Centennial Celebration of the General Federation of Women’s Club (GFWC), which marked its 100th anniversary in July 1990. The program included information about the eight-year preparation for the celebration and a brief history of the four GFWC International Presidents who served from 1982 to 1990.

Accompanying the photographs of the Presidents were the four Hummel Figurines created for fundraising purpose for the celebration. Each figurine represented women’s fashion during that era.

GFWC has been an organization for 135 years with over 60,000 members in communities worldwide. It is an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. GFWC Woman’s Club of Bridgeport is proud to be affiliated with GFWC, marking their 75 years of membership.

The GFWC Woman’s Club of Bridgeport meets on the second Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. at the Benedum Civic Center.  Service to the community is the focus of the club, and meetings are open to those interested in the arts, education, preserving natural resources, advocating for children, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
