George Wendt’s, Norm on ‘Cheers,’ cause of death revealed
George Wendt, the actor known for playing Norm on the 1980’s sitcom “Cheers,” died from cardiac arrest.
TMZ first reported thew news, citing a death certificate, which was released by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
The certificate also lists congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease and hypertension as underlying causes.
According to the report, end-stage renal disease or kidney failure and hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol) as contributing factors.
Wendt died peacefully in his sleep while at home on May 20, at the age of 76.
“George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him,” a rep for Wendt said in a statement at the time of death.
“He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time.”
His career spanned more than 50 years and included roles in films like “Dreamscape,” “House,” “Never Say Die,” “Guilty by Suspicion,” “Forever Young,” and “Spice World.”
Wendt also made an appearance on “Saturday Night Live” and in Michael Jackson’s 1991 “Black or White” music video.
