DALLAS — Former Walmart COO Jack Shewmaker’s collection of classic trucks is going up for auction.

The late Northwest Arkansan, who coined the iconic slogan “Everyday Low Prices,” had a vast collection of classic vehicles that will soon find new homes.

Mecum Auctions, the largest collector car auction company in the country, is handling the collection. 5NEWS spoke with auctioneers about just how special Shewmaker’s collection is.

“We do about 12 to 13 auctions a year, over 30,000 cars a year,” Mecum Auctions President Dave Purvis said.

He explained the company is honored to be handling the collection of a man who meant so much to Northwest Arkansas.

“He was a huge blessing for that community and making it what it is today,” Purvis said.

Growing up in rural Missouri and coming from a family that ran a Chrysler dealership, trucks were significant to Shewmaker.

“Jack was very particular if he was going to add a car or truck to his collection, he made sure it was number one, great condition car, well-kept and cared for,” Purvis said.

Now, these classic cars that have been kept in incredible condition are going to auction in Dallas. Purvis said Mecum is hopeful the Northwest Arkansas community will show out.

“We’re excited to bring that to Dallas, and that’s the closest auction we have to that community, and we’re hoping that they show out really strong for his collection,” Purvis said.

The Dallas Auction at Dickies Arena will feature over 1,600 cars and might be the last chance to take home one of Shewmaker’s trucks.

“Anyone that may have seen him driving around, taking them to car shows from that area should be there to bid on them, because it’ll be the only time they get it, only chance they get to buy them,” Purvis said.

The auction in Dallas runs Oct. 29 through 31. While the trucks from Shewmaker’s collection are headed to Dallas, the remainder of his classic cars will go to auction in Florida in January.
