Five-Vehicle Accident with Multiple Medical Transports Results in Closure of North, Southbound I-79 Lanes

On Jan. 5, at approximately 6:05 p.m., Monongalia County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 79 near the 152-mile marker in Westover.
Upon arrival, deputies and emergency personnel discovered a rollover accident inolving five vehicles. Monongalia County EMS, and the Westover Volunteer Fire Department provided immediate medical intervention and transported two injured individuals to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for treatment. The severity of their injuries is not being disclosed at this time.
Due to the investigation and the removal of debris, both northbound and southbound lanes of I-79 were closed for a period of time. Following the completiion of clean-up and investigation, all lanes were successfully reopened to traffic at approximately 8:20 p.m.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office. No further details area available for release at this time.
