Duo arrested with 10 kg ganja worth ₹2.53 lakh
Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force of Secunderabad busted an inter-state smuggling racket and arrested two peddlers. Over 10 kg ganja worth ₹2.53 lakh, being transported from Odisha to Maharashtra via Secunderabad, was seized.
The two accused hailing from UP, who were arrested from Secunderabad railway station during routine-checking, were identified as Arun Kumar, 28, and Dipak Kumar, 22. They were transporting the contraband from Koraput forest of Odisha to Kalyan in Maharashtra. Efforts are on to nab another accused, Mohit, the receiver in Maharashtra.
An investigation revealed that Arun and Dipak have been living in a rented room in Ratnagiri of Maharashtra and were involved in waste bottle collection to make ends meet. They got in touch with Mohit, who was allegedly involved in ganja trade and agreed to transport the contraband from Odisha in exchange for ₹15,000.
On December 25, Mohit took the duo to the Koraput forest area, where they purchased 10 kg dry ganja for ₹20,000. The next day they travelled to Visakhapatnam, while Mohit stayed back for some work. He sent the two to Kalyan along with the bag containing ganja via Mumbai LTT Express, promising to meet them there directly.
