Diné College campus closes after fire, classes canceled
Students and staff have been instructed to remain offsite while the fire is being investigated.
APACHE COUNTY, Ariz. — A fire reported early Monday morning has shut down the main campus of Diné College on the Navajo Nation.
College officials said the fire was reported at the campus’ student union building after smoke was detected in the area. The fire has interrupted propane service, leaving the campus’ housing facilities without access to heating.
Temporary heating solutions are being organized.
All classes have been temporarily canceled and will be transitioned to an online format.
“Students and staff are required to remain offsite to prioritize safety and facilitate insurance procedures,” college officials wrote in a statement.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Diné College’s main campus is located in Tsaile and the college has other locations throughout Arizona and New Mexico.
