Expressing shock over two reported incidents against women, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday (February 7, 2025) insisted the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam DMK government to ensure safety of women. While a woman sub-inspector of police was allegedly assaulted inside a police station in Tamil Nadu’s Sivaganga district, a pregnant woman was allegedly pushed from a Coimbatore-Tirupati train.

Referring to reports about the incident in Sivaganga district, Mr. Palaniswami criticised the DMK government over the state of affairs of law and order in the State and further said such an incident was indicating that safety was lacking even in a police station. He insisted the DMK government to initiate stringent action against those behind offences against women.

In another incident, in which a pregnant woman was allegedly pushed from a Coimbatore-Tirupati train, Mr. Palaniswami expressed shock. “Women are not safe on the roads in Tamil Nadu. They could not go to schools, colleges and offices. Now, it is a shame that they could not travel safe even on trains,” the former Chief Minister contended.

“Under the DMK government, such incidents were recurring only because special focus was not accorded to women’s safety,” he charged. Mr. Palaniswami insisted that those involved in the offence be brought to book and awarded stringent punishment.
