Connect Bridgeport News: West Virginia Welcomes Ski Season with Opening of Mountain Resorts: Timberline, Snowshoe, Winterplace

West Virginia is officially kicking off ski season as three of the state’s mountain resorts prepare to welcome visitors this week. The season begins with Timberline Mountain opening on December 4, followed by Snowshoe Mountain on December 5, and Winterplace Ski Resort on December 6. Along with fresh terrain and early-season excitement, each resort is offering a variety of learn-to-ski programs and adaptive lessons, making the magic of the winter season available for all travelers.

  • Timberline Mountain: Nestled in the charming mountain town of Davis, WV, Timberline Mountain boasts more than 20 ski trails for all skill levels, all of which can be easily reached with the high-speed, six-person chairlift.

  • Snowshoe Mountain: An oasis of winter adventure, Snowshoe Mountain offers over 60 skiing and snowboarding routes, snowtubing, horse-drawn carriage rides, and more. When off the slopes, guests can enjoy the village overflowing with shops and restaurants.

  • Winterplace Ski Resort: The state’s southernmost ski resort, Winterplace is conveniently located just off interstate 77. Home to nearly 30 trails, two terrain parks and the longest tubing run in West Virginia, this spot makes for a wonderful family getaway.

“I’m so excited to welcome visitors for an authentic ski experience in the Mountain State,”said West Virginia Department of Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby. “Whether you’re a first-timer looking to learn the ropes or an experienced pro ready for epic adventure, Almost Heaven, West Virginia has something for everyone!”

The longest sled run on the East Coast, Blackwater Falls Sled Run is set to open on December 18, 2025 and will operate Thursdays – Sundays, weather-permitting, through March 2026. Tickets are expected to sell out and can be purchased online at wvstateparks.com
