Loveta G. Cleavenger Nutter passed to join her husband, the late George Dale Nutter, on Thursday February 20, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Gilbert D. and Vernia May Dunlap Cleavenger, Granddaughter of the late Willard Guy and Mary Mollie Mullens Dunlap, maternal grandparents, and Ara and Mary Grace Cleavenger, paternal grandparents.
Born on September 11, 1928 in Clarksburg, she was one of 10 children born to the Cleavenger family.

She is survived by her four beloved sons, Robert “Bob” (Nancy), Randall “Randy” (Wanda), Mark, and Bradley “Brad”, all of Clarksburg; Six Grandchildren, Robert “Bobby Jr.”, Chad, Chris “Dean”, Craig, and Kass, all of Clarksburg, and Todd of Orlando, FL; Four great-grandchildren, Sophia, Solomon, and Silas of Orlando, FL. And Gavin of Clarksburg.
Loveta is also survived by one brother, Eugene “Butch” (Juanita) of Bridgeport.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Edward “Ed”, James “Jim”, William “Bill”, Walt, Jack; twin sisters, Lorraine Ellen and Eleanor Helen, whom died at birth; and her sister, Aletha Gay.
Loveta graduated from Roosevelt Wilson High School in 1946. The remaining class members have met every third Wednesday since 1994.
Loveta’s husband was the owner of George D. Nutter Contracting from March 1, 1961. During their marriage he built their first home in 1953 after being discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard after 3 years of service. He had served two years in the U.S. Navy during World War II in 1944 to 1946, the year they met. In 1969 he began to build their second home and they moved in December of 1970. In 1971 Loveta became the owner/operator of Town & Country Arts & Crafts until, for health reasons, she liquidated the business in 2002. She taught ceramics and was a Ceramic distributor for Duncan Supplies of Fresno, CA, also local shops in WV, PA, OH, and some parts of Canada.
Loveta was a member of The Gore Farm Women’s Club which later became Hepzibah Homemakers, a member of The Clarksburg Women’s Club since 1972, assisted the late Jean Smith as leader of the Glenwood Ridge Runners 4-H Club, as sons Bob and Randy were members, she was a den mother when her son Brad was a cub scout, a member of the Clarksburg Senior Citizens, East View Satellite, and a member of the Hepzibah Baptist Church and Gore Bible class, where she held positions of Secretary and Treasurer. She was also a sponsor for the Clarksburg Little League Baseball team, where her sons were coaches at one time or another. Mark was coach of the Paul Thompson team and Brad took over for him at the age of 17, until it was sponsored by Loveta. Her 5 grandsons played for the Little League while she was a sponsor.
She was a die-hard fan of the WVU football and basketball teams for over 70 years, also the Pittsburgh Steelers football team and Pirates baseball team. Her many talents included being able to crochet, embroidery, knit, Cross-stitch work, and her ceramic pieces were a thing of beauty. She enjoyed cross word puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, and she loved to cook and bake for her family, best known for her meatloaf, potato salad, deviled eggs, and Pumpkin Pie. She looked forward to all the Holidays when all the family gathered together to give thanks to the Lord for all his blessings, for this family was indeed blessed. She took every opportunity to spend with her family. Loveta will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Friends were received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Sunday February 23, 2025 from 2 – 8 p.m., where services will be held Monday February 24, 2025 at 11 a.m. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Bridgeport Cemetery.
