Bridgeport High School Swim and Thespian Teams Recognized for State Dominance by Council

Members of the Bridgeport boys and girls swim teams that won state championships this year, along with the BHS Thespian Team that took home top honors at the state thespian festival, were recognized by members of Bridgeport City Council on Monday, May 12.

The swim team was the first group brought forward. The teams have won multiple titles since the sport was recognized by the WVSSAC and has only had Jan Grisso as the coach. Grisso said this year’s team was the first one that saw the boys and the girls bring home titles in the same years in the 32 years of the program.

As for the Thespians, the group is just one of many talented units that continue to keep the arts alive and well at Bridgeport High School. BHS Thespian Troupe #7549 had its “Antigone, Always Here” named the Outstanding One Act Performance at the state thespian festival held at Marshall University this year. The act will now represent the state at the International Thespian Festival takin place June 22-27 at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
