BJP MLA’s brother shoots son dead over money dispute in Ujjain
A 55-year-old man, brother of a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA, was arrested on Monday (February 3, 2025) for allegedly shooting his own son dead over a financial dispute in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district, police said.
According to the police, the incident took place on Monday morning around 9 a.m. in Suchai village under Makdaun police station limits after an argument broke out between the two over some money from their Kirana shop.
Ujjain Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), Pallavi Shukla told The Hindu that the accused, Mangal Singh Malviya, 55, used his licensed revolver to shoot his son, Arvind Balai, 35, in the head.
“They have a Kirana shop and in the morning they got into an argument over some money from the shop. During the heated argument, the father opened fire at his son and the bullet hit him on the head,” she said, adding that Mr. Balai died on the spot.
“We have rounded the accused up and will investigate if they have had this dispute in the past,” she added. A post-mortem was also conducted on the deceased’s body.
Mr. Malviya is the elder brother of Satish Malviya, BJP MLA from Ghatiya Assembly constituency in Ujjain district, Ms. Shukla said.
She said that the victim is survived by his wife and two children.
