Arizona Supreme Court using AI ‘reporters’ to spread information
Arizona’s supreme court announced a new initiative to utilize artificial intelligence to spread information “directly from the court.”
PHOENIX — The Arizona Supreme Court said it will be using AI-generated avatars to resemble news reporters and disseminate information.
On Tuesday, the state’s high court announced a new initiative to utilize AI to spread information “directly from the court” concerning case updates and decisions.
Named Daniel and Victoria, the AI avatars essentially serve as a spokesperson for the court in video format. Supreme court officials said in a statement that the AI avatars will allow the court to produce videos more quickly and efficiently.
The state’s supreme court is responsible for reviewing complex legal matters that can have widespread ramifications on residents in Arizona. The court justices were instrumental in sorting out Arizona’s abortion laws after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.
Court officials said the AI avatars are intended to help maintain public trust and transparency in Arizona’s judicial branch.
The court hinted that more “reporters” may be generated to join its team in the future.
