Amazon Web Services to invest Rs.60,000 crore in Telangana to expand data centres

Tech behemoth Amazon Web Services (AWS) agreed to invest Rs.60,000 crore in data centres in Telangana. “AWS will be expanding its data centres in Hyderabad in a big way with plans for fresh investment of around Rs 60000 crores. With this AWS  Region in Hyderabad will play an increasingly important role in supporting AWS’s growth of cloud services in India, including AI in the future,” as per official communication.

It has agreed to the Rs. 60,000 crore investment at a meeting between senior executives from Amazon Web Services represented by Michael Punke, vice president, AWS Global Public Policy and A. Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister and D. Sridhar Babu, IT and Industries Minister at World Economic Forum (WEF) annual conference 2025 in Davos, Switzerland.

AWS had earlier announced to invest US $4.4 billion by 2030 to develop its cloud infrastructure in the State. It so far developed three sites in the State with an investment of around US $1 billion, which are already operational.  

It has requested the government for facilitating allocation of additional land for their expansion plans. The government has agreed to it.

Hailing the major investment decision, the Chief Minister said,“We are delighted with the growth of confidence of global businesses like Amazon to make huge investments as never before in our State now. The efforts of the last one year have truly borne fruit. This is Telangana Rising’’ vision at work.”

Mr. Sridhar Babu said that with this deal, Hyderabad is set to be recognised as Data Centres hub of India and an undisputed leader in the space.
