Local Woman who Dedicated 33 Years to Education on Several Fronts, Lucille Ann Sellers, Passes at 76

Lucille Ann Sellers, 76, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

Born on August 4, 1949, Lucille dedicated her life to education, serving students, teachers and families throughout her distinguished 33-year career.

She graduated from East Fairmont High School before earning her Bachelor’s degree from Fairmont State College. She later received a Master of Science in Education and completed additional postgraduate studies while serving as Supervisor of Career Technical and Adult Education, as well as Vocational and Special Education, for Loudin County Public Schools in Northern Virginia.

Throughout her career, Lucille developed, coordinated, and revised curriculum for numerous educational programs. She served as a liaison with the Virginia State Supervisors of Curriculum and was widely respected for her leadership and commitment to educational excellence. Among her many accomplishments, she established a Teacher Cadet Program for high school seniors, provided professional development and training for teachers, and a Family Life Education Program for students in grades kindergarten through tenth grade.

After 33 years of dedicated service, Lucille retired, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to benefit educators and students alike.

Above all, Lucille cherished her family. She was the daughter of the late Ralph A. Sellers I and Philomena “Florence” Sellers of Fairmont. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Lucia Sellers, and Antonio and Filomena Rizzo.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Frances Sellers Reynolds, and brother-in-law, Richard A. Reynolds I.

Lucille is lovingly remembered by her brother, Dr. Ralph A. Sellers, II, and his wife, Diane Chapman Sellers; her sister, Annette M. Sellers Waugaman and her husband, Greg A. Waugaman; and by her many beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Lucille will be remembered for her love of colorful flowers, her generosity, her lifelong dedication to education, her quiet leadership, and the positive influence she had on countless students, teachers, colleagues, and family members.

A Memorial Mass for Lucille will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Fairmont at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
