Fire Marshal’s Office Says State Church Blaze Arson

A church that was burned in Lesage on Wednesday was ruled as intentionally set, according to investigators with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Brighter Day Ministry Church, located in the 4000 block of Nine Mile Road in Lesage, was found to have had a small fire in an attached shed at the back of the structure by responding fire departments. This fire occurred at around 12:10 P.M. and this fire was ruled intentional by the WVSFMO.

Approximately two hours later crews responded to another set of fires at the church, these at each door of the church and the adjacent fellowship hall. These were also ruled by WVSFMO investigators as being intentionally set.

WVSFMO investigators have developed preliminary leads for suspects involved with the fires and are currently following up on those leads. Anyone with any information on these fires are urged to call the WV Arson Hotline at 1-800-233-FIRE (3473).
