Jacksonville mother frustrated after son reportedly hurt at daycare
A Jacksonville mother has been making her voice heard in the fight to protect her son after he was reportedly hurt while at a local daycare.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A Jacksonville mother of two, has been making her voice heard in the fight to protect her son after he was reportedly hurt while at a local daycare.
As she and her son danced in the living room, she noticed something odd.
“We were playing. Everybody was kind of grumpy. I just turned on some music, and we started a dance party,” Rebecca Beckham said. “I look over this arm and he’s got some, I almost thought they were scratches when I first saw them, I was like, whoa, what happened?”
When questioning her young son, Aiden, he explained that a teacher had hurt him.
“I’m asking him, why would he do that? Why did he do that? And he said, because he wasn’t taking a nap,” Beckham said. “[I was] just in shock, really, more than anything, anger, upset, I was furious.”
The next day, she and Aiden’s father expressed concerns to his daycare center.
She said the director listened to Aiden’s story, a report was filed, and she was shown the security footage.
“We heard Aiden scream my arm, and I immediately, I was like, no, stop it. I need a different camera view. I need to see my son, because he just screamed his arm. I need to know what is happening, because it was like from behind a shelf,” Beckham said. “Nobody’s coming to help him. Nobody is. And he’s not stopping. He’s holding him down. He’s continuing to do it. I just don’t understand what’s going through your head to make you think that it’s okay.”
She filed an incident report at the Jacksonville Police Department, and they have launched an investigation into the incident.
The report also says that the daycare director has informed Child Protective Services.
We reached out to the daycare, but they explained that they have no additional comments. However, in a since-deleted Facebook post, they did address that they were aware of the allegations.
The statement is as follows:
“We have been made aware of an incident that occurred at our center. Accusations have been made against the staff member, and we are investigating these allegations. All evidence is circumstantial pending the conclusion of the investigation that is being conducted.
We value our families here at [the daycare] and we are here to teach and protect our children at all times.”
“Aiden deserves to know that nothing like this will ever happen to him again, and if anything does happen like this, I will stand up again and do exactly what I’m doing right now,” Beckham said.
The investigation into the incident is still underway, and no charges have been filed at this time.
