Rising temperatures prompt hiker safety tips from Arizona fire department
Dizziness, nausea, cramps, and confusion can signal heat illness.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Scottsdale Fire Department started off Saturday morning by going to the aid of a hiker who became overheated while on Pima Canyon Trail.
Capt. Dave Folio said crews were able to safely assist the hiker off the trail and then get to them care they needed after the incident.

Folio wanted to urge everyone to be cautious with temperatures rising in the Valley.
Forecasted highs are forecasted in the double digits this weekend, with Saturday’s expected to be 103 degrees and Sunday’s expected high even hotter at 105 degrees.
Folio said that as temperatures rise, so do heat risks.
He has these tips for hikers:
- Start Early – Hit the trail at sunrise to beat peak heat.
- Hydrate Often – Drink water before, during, and after your hike. Electrolytes help, too.
- Dress Smart – Wear light-colored, breathable clothing and a wide-brim hat.
- Know the Signs – Dizziness, nausea, cramps, and confusion can signal heat illness.
- Turn Back Early – When in doubt, cut your hike short.
