Bridgeport Man who was Pharmacist for More than 40 Years, Master Mason, Konrad Melkus, Passes at 87


Konrad Andrew Melkus, 87, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at the Taylor Healthcare Center in Grafton, WV. He was born on May 28, 1937 in Beckley, WV, the son of the late Joseph W. and Mary E. Hughes Melkus. Konrad is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Ilene J. Zasloff Melkus.


 


In addition to his wife, Konrad is survived by his lifelong friend, who was like his brother, Don Nestor of Clarksburg, sister-in-law, Etta Zasloff, dear friend, Julie Zasloff, as well as several nieces and nephews.


 


Konrad graduated from Washington Irving High School and attended West Virginia University, where he earned his bachelor of science in Business Administration and Pharmacy. He faithfully worked for over 40 years as a pharmacist with RevCo Pharmacy in Bridgeport, and later at Kroger’s Pharmacy. Konrad was a proud Master Mason, where he was a member of the Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of WV Adroniram No. 11 in Clarksburg, a 50-year member of the Herman Lodge No. 6 A.F. & A.M in Clarksburg, and a 50-year A&A Scottish Rite of Freemasonry 32nd degree Mason in Clarksburg. He also was a proud member of Nemisis Shrine Kinights Templar, J.C.I. Senator, and the Harrison County Elks Lodge in Clarksburg. Konrad traveled to 49 of the 50 states in the United States. He also enjoyed collecting stines.


 


In addition to his parents, Konrad was preceded in death by his three brothers, Joseph, Fredrick, and James Melkus, and his brother-in-law, Frank Zasloff.


 


Memorial contributions may be made in Konrad’s memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 110 Conn Terrace, Lexington, KY 40508.


 


The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport. Friends will be received on Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 4 pm until 8 pm and again on Monday, May 5, 2025 from 9 am until 12 Noon. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 12 Noon with Reverend Michael Burge officiating. A service of committal will follow at the Bridgeport Cemetery, where masonic ritualistic services will be conducted by the Clarksburg Herman Lodge No. 6 A.F. & A.M.  Online condolences may be made to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
