Businessman John Ebert’s SAT Prep Course Reaches Milestone with 5000th Student Assisted by Program

A free class that helps students prepare for taking the SAT recently offered for years by a Bridgeport businessman recently saw its 5000th student take part.

John Ebert was in Lewis County offering the class in March. And one of the students was the 5000th to attend.

“It was hard to believe we would end up having 5,000 students attend the class when we started the program 14 years ago. I knew initially there was a need to help students prepare for the math portion of the standardized tests, so we started offering this class,” said Ebert. “I realized a lot of the students won’t prepare at all for the exam, so this is a chance for them to remember some of the concepts that they first learned back as a freshman. We have found that the best way to score well on the test is to actually go through test questions.

“I believe there’s a limited number of math concepts that are tested whether it’s perpendicular slopes, undefined terms, areas of circles or areas of triangles,” he continued. “If you understand these concepts and how they can be packaged maybe just a little bit differently each time, you will certainly score higher.”

Ebert helps students with insights on how to answer these questions more quickly and refresh with them some of the basic math concepts. Math is typically the most challenging part of the exam, and in a lot of cases, it will keep the student from achieving the Promise Scholarship.  The Promise Scholarship is worth more than $20,000

“The biggest change that we have made in the last couple of years is that we are now focusing on preparation for the SAT. This is the standardized test that juniors are taking now,” Ebert said.

Ebert, who owns 39 McDonalds in three states,  teaches the class with Dakota Ferrell.

“Dakota is instrumental in helping reformulate the class to focus on the SAT and does a wonderful job in teaching it. She really connects with the students and provides tremendous insights to help them Improve their score,” said Ebert. “She is also the teacher for the small groups of students who attend the class at the office. We received a call from the superintendent of Preston County after his son attended and benefited from a class Dakota taught, and he wanted the class for the entire junior class, which we did late last year. Dakota not only does a tremendous job teaching the SAT class but also is a valuable employee in our office; she helps prepare our financial statements and is in charge of the payroll.”

Individuals can register at the website johnebertmathactprep.com. The next prep class will be held on Sunday May 18 prior to the June test.
