Orange County police chase: Suspect shot and killed by Anaheim police after PIT maneuver and crash
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (KABC) — A police chase through Orange County ended with shots fired on Wednesday night. The suspect in the chase was shot and killed by Anaheim police.
It all began with a report of a person shot in the stomach at the Kona Motel on Brookhurst Street in Anaheim. Responding officers spotted a white pickup truck fleeing the scene, and the chase was on.
Meanwhile, the man who was shot at the motel was taken to the hospital in stable condition, according to Anaheim PD.
The chase traveled through several cities in Orange County, with police using various various tactics like spike strips and PIT maneuvers to try to stop the suspect.
The suspect eventually got stuck in busy traffic at a red light. A patrol vehicle rammed his truck to the side of the road, but the suspect continued on.
California Highway Patrol and Anaheim police worked in tandem to end the dangerous pursuit. AIR7 was live above the scene as the chase came to an end.
A patrol vehicle executed a successful PIT maneuver on W. Memory Lane near The City Drive in Santa Ana. The suspect spun out and crashed into the median.
Law enforcement moved in, and that’s when numerous shots were fired by police.
A passenger got out of the truck and was quickly taken into custody. A short time later, officers moved in and removed the suspect from the driver’s side of the truck.
Anaheim PD said officers performed CPR, but the suspect could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Video from the ground shows bullet holes in the driver’s side door of the truck and all across the the windshield.
Anaheim PD did not release the name of the suspect who was killed. Investigators did not say if he pointed or fired his weapon first, or what exactly led police to fire shots.
